Ways to Give

The 1899 Society

Your planned gift can help shape the future of care at Lehigh Valley Hospital

Named to commemorate the opening of what was then known as The Allentown Hospital, the 1899 Society continues the more than 100-year tradition of supporting Lehigh Valley Hospital and Health Network through philanthropy. Like the visionaries who have helped lead and support the hospital throughout its rich history, members of the 1899 Society lead the hospital into the future through estate gifts.

How it Helps

By naming LVHHN in your will (a bequest), establishing gift annuities or charitable trusts, or making a life insurance gift, you help ensure the highest quality health care for our community. Members of the 1899 Society feel passionate about the work LVHHN does to improve the health of our community through education and research as well as hands-on care. They find satisfaction in directing their generosity in a way that will continue working after they’re gone.

How to Support

Charitable bequests

You can name LVHHN as a beneficiary in your will, either for a specific amount or as a percentage of your estate. Your attorney can help you designate LVHHN as a beneficiary.

Life income gifts

By establishing a charitable gift annuity or charitable trust, you can support LVHHN and receive income for life.

A charitable gift annuity can provide income for one or two people. The annuity rate is based on a person’s age at the time the gift is made. It can be funded with cash or appreciated securities.

A charitable remainder trust can be established for the duration of your life or for a specified number of years. It can provide income for one or more people. Both types of life income gifts offer tax advantages as well as flexibility in how you use your assets.

Charitable lead trust

This type of trust provides LVHHN with support for the duration of the trust period, after which the principle is transferred to your heirs. It enables you to give to LVHHN while also preserving assets for future generations.

Life insurance

You can designate LVHHN as owner and beneficiary of either a new or fully paid life insurance policy.

When you become a member of the 1899 Society, your gift will be recognized in various ways, and you will receive invitations to educational and social events.

It’s important to develop a giving plan that fits with your needs and desires, and that you fully understand your options. Please consult a tax professional and your IRA custodian or call Lise Twiford, vice president, development, or Jane Wrisley, director, planned giving, at 610-402-6385 to discuss various giving options, including ways you can make a planned gift to LVHHN and join the 1899 Society.
